During evaporation, 1% of the water changes state. The vapor absorbs heat before moving toward the compressor.
The water vapor is compressed, increasing its pressure so it can condense at ambient temperature.
The vapor condenses, releasing the heat absorbed during evaporation. This heat can then be rejected or recovered depending on the application, while the cycle continues throughout chiller operation.
Water evaporates under vacuum, allowing its temperature to be lowered according to process requirements.

Founded in Grenoble (France) in 2017, ALPINOV X has pursued a clear ambition: to make industrial cooling more efficient, more reliable and more sustainable.
We are developing a new generation of water-based chillers using water (R718) as a natural refrigerant, designed to meet the growing needs of global industry. Driven by a committed team and a shared culture of rigor, honesty and initiative, ALPINOV X is turning a breakthrough technology into an industrial solution ready for deployment.
Our unique expertise is built on advanced mastery of turbo-compression and vacuum water thermodynamic cycles, enabling us to overcome key technological barriers in industrial cooling.
With a theoretical COP above 6 and measurable efficiency gains, GEN5 opens a new path for industrial cooling: more efficient, cleaner and free from conventional chemical refrigerants.
The third generation of chillers reached 500 kW of cooling power, validating the technology at a significant industrial scale. The next generation is designed to exceed 1 MW, confirming the solution's ability to serve high-power applications as early as 2026.
By eliminating chemical refrigerants and using an optimized architecture, GEN5 reduces maintenance operations, limits on-site constraints and supports long-term performance with fewer daily interventions. Industrial cooling becomes simpler, more reliable and easier to operate.
